[ Reply ] I... actually liked it.. | Jul 3 2007, 07:19 PM | forrest averyI say that because I honestly don't like progressive Trance. I don't think it's bad music, as it seems to be perfectly fine Electronic Dance music looking at it from a Dj perspective. It just isn't to my specific taste. With that said. I enjoyed the mix very much. I especially liked tracks 3, 8, 10, and 11(Matrix samples are always cool imo even though they are played out in a lot of others) As for the mixing, your beatmatching is pretty much perfect the whole time. Mixes got a little rough going between tracks 4 and 5, and then between 8 and 9, but you never totally lost control, and you kept the transitions smooth on those mixes, which shows you didn't lose your head even though the beats where slippin a little. Those where the only mixes I heard that had any noticable rough spots. There seemed to be a lot of points where I was hearing one track getting faded out, when the track being mixed in was still pretty much just it's beat, this didn't sound bad, but I did get the feeling the track that was fading out could have played at full volume a little longer before being faded. In general I would like to hear more mixing of the actual melodies. You usually transition over at the point the next track kicks in with it's melodies. This creates very smooth transitions at the ends of your mixes, and they don't sound bad by any means(just like most people say Trance mix should sound actaully), but it would be more fun for me personally to hear more blending of the actual melodies. Keep in mind I didn't mark you down at all for this way of mixing, because in general that is accepted way of mixing trance, and you can be faulted for pulling that off pretty much perfectly(which you did). Doing what I describe would get you extra points in my book(especially since I don't hear other Trance Djs do it), but you don't lose points any for doing it how you did. In closing I think you completed your goal of mixing the different styles of Prog Trance into only 11 tracks excellently. I definitely heard stuff that fit into all the catagories you listed, and overall flow of the mix was very very well done, and the flow of the mix is of course very important in Trance of all kinds. Well done. |
