Sunshine Loungin' - 21st Century JazzFunk at its best with lots of slapping Fender bass, Rhodes piano and funk riffs as it should be. Mainly instrumental tracks.
Featuring the heavyweight hitters of the genre including Kyoto Jazz Massive (the mix was titled - subtitled - after them), the cream of Incognito and Joey Negro's Sunburst Band that could pass as an Earth, Wind & Fire Revival Band...
The highlight is the remix of Herb Alpert's jazzfunk classic Rotation
Wow! GREAT mix!!. I really enjoyed listening this wonderful work. The melody "Rotation" brought me enormous fond memories (I remember this song that played Herp Albert). Thanks for giving us this good work.

Played this without checking out the playlist and found myself in a time warp....the tracks in this mix are very much influenced by the late 70's early 80's Jazz Funk style...... artists (influence) that sprung to mind when listening were E.W.F,(for the sassy brass), S.O.S Band's Groovin, Alphonse Mouzon, Morissey Mullen, early Bob James (keyboards) with the soulfull jazz element of Donald Byrd to name a few. An absolute plessure to listen too...well done my friend an inspiring mix to say the least..... ...Epromted!!
My only criticism of this set is that it had to end at all!
Some of my most favourite artists and tracks, and a couple that until now I didn't even know about - I will definitely find out more about them.
Where to start? I apologise but there's so many good things to say about this set that this might go on a bit. But then I guess its a good thing to let people know what you think after they have put all the hard work in to create something that quite simply just makes you smile!
Anything by Joey Negro and The Sunburst Band gets my attention, and Journey To The Sun is such an awesome tune that it almost persuades you to stick the t-shirt and shorts on, grab a beer and head off for a beach party! It was almost a shame that only the "Reprise" was here (as the whole track is stunning) but for this set the Reprise works perfectly. This and Until The End Of Time are top quality tunes - one of my other favourites is Sitting On Top Of The World.
Incognito - I Can See The Future and Beyond The Clouds are both fabulous tracks. Have been a big fan ever since I heard Jocelyn Brown on their "Always There" track a while back. Some of their instrumental arrangements on these two are spellbinding.
Nightwaves - not heard this before but loved it. Some parts I can almost liken to a couple of Jamiroquai tracks (I dont know who came first but JK's influences are heavily based on 70's soul funk jazz and this tracks sounds similar to some of the stuff he was influenced by). And what sounded like a hammond organ(?) reminded me of the excellent Jimmy Bo Horne's "Dance Across The Floor".
Danny Clark - I Love Soul is an amazing tune - and I had memories of his "Feel It In Your Soul (Vox Mix)" whilst listening to it. Sunrise and Sunset are also quality tracks that effortlessly fit very well into this mix.
Reel People - somewhere near the top of my all time favourites is their track "The Light" and It Will Be is of no less quality - cant believe I had never heard it before but am very glad I now have. It's brilliant!
Spiritual Rotations all the way through to Sunset take the set down to a nice vibe and all are sublime tunes.
Building it back up with Zaius is very well thought out - it has a fantastic energy to it and having never come across that tune I am glad I have now.
My introduction to Eric Kupper was some years ago and he doesn't disappoint with Rotation. It is a great track ( I like jazz trumpet) and a fitting ending to what it is a masterpiece of a set.
Thank you and very well done!
(p.s. - now that I've finished writing my comments I can now download this, stick it up to 11 on the volume control and enjoy!)
True Mike, I had trouble finding a category since both lounge and jazzy beats are under downtempo but most people do post faster uptempo mixes under Lounge. It should sit under JazzFunk is there was such a genre here... Track 11
Some years ago, i was a Jazz & Jazz funk trumpet-player and all that kind of funky-Jazz music was my first inspiration ! ;-) For now, i down play music anymore but i always enjoy to groove on that way, even if i listen much more downtempo music !
With this mix, you're reactualizing some good memories... A great period of my life !
