What a set! What a set! All that very special swinging 60s style nu jazz grooves hand picked! Truly remarkable again. It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing
if you know what I mean, and you definitely grabbed it well here!
You love your Club Des Belugas, you've been using tracks from them in most of your mixes - it's hard not to, the whole album of Swop is excellent, "What Is Jazz" is also my top track from there although it's hard to pick a single favourite, the whole album is constant hight quality all the way through.
Nicolas Conte - can't get enough of it!
And then Track 4 - what is this??? Unbelievable instrumental, I love it! I don't think I've heard this before.
Great cover of the classic "And The Beat Goes on" - nice nu jazz feeling.
Another nice instrumental with flutes at Track 8 - sounds like it's straight from the 70s, but it's not! Had to look it up, it's nu jazz! There is a bit of an indian tabla feel to the percussion, just slightly, I could not swear that it's tabla or not but it sounds close...
And it was a nice intro to the latin sound in Track 9, very brazilian feel, just getting back to funk at Track 10, a classic.
Ah, De-Phazz! We actually played a lounge set with Andrew J before their gig in Budapest back in 2001ish. We should put together that set again, it was cool...
Very nice, consistent quality and brilliant tracklist - it should be published as "Saint Germain Des Pres Cafe Volume 12" as it is!
(Truth to be told I haven't realized there was a Volume 11 released, just seen it now, need to buy it quickly)
