Across the 110th Street, whatta hell? Can't imagine any better intro than that, I guess even Tarantino agrees with me starting Jackie Brown with it - but you seem to know the real deal, is this picture from the original blaxpoitation movie of the same name? Love the Wilson Picket sign up there...
Track 2 is a surprise for me, did not know this one from Grover! However I did hear this sampled on a Ninja Tune compilation, now I need to look up what this track was. And I thought Grover was about smooth jazz, Mister Magic and Soulful strut, how wrong I was, need to dig these crates more that's my learning from here...
Dimsa will love your choice of Explansions, Lonnie Linston is his all time favourite. But then - Track 5??? Is this the original???? You keep surprising, it's like a "Sampled" series here, I love this tune, have probably 3 different covers or remixes, the St. Germain one with John Lee Hooker is the most famous, Kenny Dope did a good groove on Saint Germain Des Pres Cafe Volume 2 as well - I never knew there was an original.
Gene Harris, Quincy Jones, no comments, they take it back to a jazzy movie soundtrack feel. Then "Sampled" comes back with Herbie, not fooling me any more though, I know that Janet Jackson just sampled this recently, I love the original, typical jazz-funk sound, could not tell if this is on Man-Child, Thrust or Mr. Hands, that is the direction.
David Axelrod and a strange choice of EWF - you're not giving us any hints here, is this a balxpoitation movie soundtrack set all together? This EWF song is also a movie instert in the film of the same title.
Interesting work, some great discoveries for me here...
